A Journey In Italy
On a journey to Italy in the late spring of 2023, I found myself thinking about the difference between being a tourist and being a traveler. I’ve always felt that the former glides on the surface of a place he or she visits, while the latter goes deeper. It felt like we were engaging deeply with the country, no matter how long our stops were in any given town or city.
(For a more in-depth look at our stay in Venice, see the gallery “Venice in Black and White and Color,” which contains images not included here.)
I’ve tried here to publish photographs that aren’t simply tourist snapshots, though of course, our travels through the beautiful northern portions of Italy were all too brief. Think of these images from Venice, Florence, Tuscany, Liguria, Milan and Lake Como as preliminary sketches from an intended deeper study, one I intend to engage in for the rest of my life.
