The Tulip Frenzy
I'm not certain why I have, for so many years, been obsessed with the tulip bloom. All I know is that, ever since learning in high school art history about the 17th Century Dutch Tulip Frenzy, I have slightly obsessed over the concept of a flower bloom leading rational people to wild speculation -- blossoms leading to madness. What is this magical power that tulips had over the most orderly minds, the most psychologically balanced personalities in Europe? Fortunately I live in Washington -- a city which each spring erupts with a tremendous variety of tulips. For those who may not be familiar with it, our sister site, which we've published since 2008, is called Tulip Frenzy.
